Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away on August 7, 2026, at the age of 90 years.
The daughter of the late Herbert Niederstadt and Margaret Smith Niederstadt was born on October 11, 1935, in Saginaw, MI. Joan was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School, the class of 1953. She married Jerry G. Schuette on January 10, 1959; he predeceased her on March 31, 2013.
Joan loved to dance, listen to live music, and was talented at crafts, especially crocheting. She also loved her pet cats, and her family’s cats. Joan cherished her family and friends.
Surviving are her children: Jason (Barbara K.) Schuette of Rockwall, TX, Suzanne Ault of Midland, MI; grandchildren: Matthew T. (Hailey) Schuette, Michael N. (Berkley) Schuette; great-grandchildren: Brynlee, Luke, William and one on the way; her brother-in-law Richard Schuette, sister-in-law Beverly Schuette, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Besides her husband and parents, Joan was predeceased by her siblings: Jean (Duane) Pruden, James Niederstadt, Gary (Marilyn) Niederstadt, Edith (Edward) Fluder, her sisters and brothers-in-law: Carlton (Joyce) Schuette, Thomas Schuette, Jacklyn May, Janet Schuette, and her son-in-law Robert J. Ault.
Funeral services will take place at 12:00 Noon Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. with private burial to follow. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Humane Society of Michigan and AdvisaCare Home Health & Hospice.
