Joan Marion Hall, age 95, passed away on the 28th day, August, 2023 at New Hope Valley of Saginaw. She was born on August 11, 1928, in Saginaw, Michigan, the daughter of the late Emil and Marion (Fisher) Fleischmann. On December 26, 1953, she married Randall K. Hall. He predeceased her April 9, 2017.

 

Joan graduated from Arthur Hill High School, the class of 1946 and received a Dow scholarship to further her education. She attended Michigan State and Central Michigan Colleges, graduating from CMU with a B.S. in Biological Sciences. Afterward, Joan became a graduate of Saginaw General Hospital School of Medical Technology. Joan's work was the focus of her life. Throughout her career she held various positions: cytotechnologist, teacher of medical technology, blood bank and hematology department supervisor in Saginaw hospitals and laboratories. In 2001, she retired as an assistant medical laboratory director after 48 years of service in the medical field.

 

In her early years, Joan devoted time serving on committees in professional organizations such as Altrusa of Saginaw, The American Association of University Women, The American Society of Clinical Pathologists (MT-ASCP) and The Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra. For 20 years, she also volunteered in the READ Association.

 

An avid reader and lifelong learner, Joan enjoyed exploring a wide variety of subjects including science, history, literature, theatre, classical music and Tai Chi. In addition, her adventuresome and fearless spirit led her on many domestic and international travel opportunities throughout her life. In her later years she continued to stay active by attending OLLI classes at SVSU, Town Talk Series, Saginaw Choral Society and Saginaw Bay Orchestra concerts with friends.

 

Surviving are two daughters, Catherine (Brian) McNalley and Tasma K. Swanson; six grandchildren, Christopher (Melissa) McNalley, Brett (Rebecca) McNalley, Fletcher (Stephanie) and his family, Haley (Sam) Michels, Leif Swanson and Foxx Swanson; nine great-grandchildren: Cameron, Mason, Declan, Delaney, Ian, Owen, and Brady; six nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas E. Fleischmann and sister, Leta M. Techentien.

 

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the devoted staff of New Hope Valley of Saginaw for their exceptional care of Joan during her final 7 years. Special thank you to Erreisha, Vee, Marissa, Judith, Courtney, Nicole, Geri, Josh, Kayla, Gloria, Vicky, Jada, Destiny, Jada, Lynn, Sally, Liz, Jeff, Jon, Braeden, Acashia, Rudy, Christina and many others. Cardinal Hospice services and support have also been greatly appreciated, with special thanks to Lisa.

 

In accordance with Joan's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private memorial service for the immediate family will be held at a later date with interment at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Saginaw, Michigan.
