Jeffery George Turner
May 22, 1976 – October 25, 2026
Jeffery Turner, age 50, passed away on October 25, 2026, in Saginaw, Michigan, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 22, 1976, Jeff lived a life defined by his love for family, passion for athletics, and dedication to making a difference in the lives of others.
A gifted student-athlete, Jeff excelled in both hockey and baseball during his high school years. His remarkable athletic ability earned him a place in Michigan high school baseball history, holding the state's stolen base record until it was broken just five years ago. While his talents extended across multiple sports, hockey became a defining part of his life.
Jeff continued his hockey career at the University of Massachusetts (UMass), where he played for four years, earning the honor of team captain and establishing himself as a respected leader both on and off the ice. One of the highlights of his collegiate career was the opportunity to share two seasons on the ice with his brother, Tim. Following college, Jeff pursued his love of hockey professionally, playing two seasons in Europe before returning to Michigan, where he once again joined Tim in the professional ranks playing for the Kalamazoo Wings. The opportunity to share the game they loved as brothers created memories that would last a lifetime.
While hockey provided Jeff with countless opportunities and accomplishments, his greatest blessings were still ahead.
On September 29, 2011, Jeff met the love of his life, Nicole. The two were married on March 1, 2013, beginning a beautiful chapter centered around love and family. Together, they built a life filled with cherished memories and the joy of raising their two sons, Jace and Jett.
As his playing days came to an end, Jeff embraced a new and equally meaningful role: Coach Jeff. His passion for competing evolved into an even greater passion for shaping young lives. The leadership, determination, and love of sports that had defined him as a player became the foundation of his coaching career.
Jeff dedicated his time and talents to coaching with the Saginaw Junior Spirit hockey program and the Saginaw Golds baseball organization. For Jeff, coaching was never simply about teaching the fundamentals of a game or celebrating victories. It was about building confidence, instilling discipline, encouraging teamwork, and helping young athletes discover what they were capable of achieving.
Perhaps most special of all was the opportunity to coach his own sons, Jace and Jett. The sports that had given Jeff so much throughout his life became something he could share with his boys, creating memories and a bond that extended far beyond the rink and baseball diamond.
To the many young athletes who had the privilege of playing for him, he was more than a coach. He was a mentor, a role model, and someone who believed in their potential. His influence reached beyond the scoreboard, leaving lessons and memories that his players will carry with them throughout their lives.
Despite his many accomplishments as an athlete and coach, Jeff's most meaningful roles were those of husband, father, son, brother, and uncle. His family was the heart of his world, and the love he shared with them will remain his greatest legacy.
Jeff is survived by his beloved wife, Nicole Turner; his cherished sons, Jace and Jett; his loving parents, Greg and Shelley Turner; his siblings, Scott Turner, Tracie (Dane) Davis, and Tim (Carly) Turner; and his nieces and nephews, Owen, Gabe, Madeline, Oakley, Truman, and Roman.
Jeff's life was measured not simply by the records he set, the games he played, or the victories he celebrated, but by the lives he touched along the way. From teammate to captain, brother to husband, father to coach, he left a legacy of love, leadership, and inspiration.
The final buzzer may have sounded, but Coach Jeff's impact will live on in every life he touched.
