James “Jim” Arthur Northrup of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Samaritas of Saginaw. He was 90 years old. James Arthur Northrup was born on September 23, 1931, in Lansing, Michigan, to the late Edwin and Mary (McCall) Northrup. He was a 1950 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. Following graduation, Jim honorably served his country by enlisting in the United States Army, serving as a radio operator during the Korean War and was proficient using Morse code. Jim served for two years until his honorable discharge receiving many awards and commendations. His love story began where he met the love of his life, Nancy Lou Corippo, through a friend. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on June 18, 1955; she survives him. Jim was a lifelong and faithful member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and actively participated as a volunteer usher within the parish. He worked as a sheet metal operator with Ferrell Ross for 35 years. Upon their closing, Jim began working as a sheet metal operator for Glastender, retiring after many years of loyal and dedicated service. As a young man, Jim was an avid hunter. He was a gifted and skilled woodworker and could build and design anything beautifully and with meticulous precision. Jim also enjoyed creating crafts with his wife Nancy. Above all, he treasured and cherished his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren. He will forever be remembered for his generosity, kindness, and for the love and care he had for everyone.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Nancy Lou Northrup of Saginaw; two daughters and a son: Theresa (Frank) Hall of Traverse City; Jim (Katie) Northrup II of Lapeer; and Toni Northrup of Saginaw; two grandchildren: Jennifer Hall of Traverse City; Nicole (Charlie) Burch of Traverse City; three great-grandchildren: Ben, Emmie, Annabelle; a. special nephew, Bob Durek. Also surviving are many additional loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Northrup; and five brothers and a sister.

A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Road. Rev. Fr. Peter J. Gaspeny will officiate. Honoring Jim’s wishes cremation will follow the service. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road on Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a parish Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Jim will lie state at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
