Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, passed away at his home with his family by his side on Friday, September 4, 2026. Age 69 years.

The son of the late Thomas and Iris (Gordy) McFarland was born January 2, 1957, in Saginaw, MI. He graduated from Bridgeport High School class of 1976. Howie married Theresa Parent on October 15, 1983. He worked many dedicated years at Baker Perkins in Saginaw. Howie filled his time with various hobbies and interests. He loved riding his Harley with his friends and cruising around the state in a Corvette soaking in the season's changing colors. Howie enjoyed being on the water whether it was boating with family or bass fishing around Michigan or fishing with friends in Florida. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and was always willing to man the grill and partake in yard games. Howie also built computers and had a knack for architecture; designing and building the house that his kids grew up in as well as the house he retired into in Lake City. He had a love for music, especially 70s and 90s rock, and was a dedicated fan to his favorite teams, the Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Lions and Tigers. No matter what he was doing, Howie made sure to always include his family and friends, and cherished the time making memories with them.

Left to hold onto those memories are his wife Theresa, daughter Jacki (Kevin) VanHamlin and her son Rowan Fannon, daughter Katelyn McFarland, brothers, Denny (Lorri) McFarland and Bob (Heather) McFarland, nieces and nephews: Felicia Arrand, Ashlee McFarland, and Matt McFarland; a special friend like a sister, Cherie McFarland, his beloved dog Groot that he rescued in May, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, extended relatives and friends.

Along with his parents Howie was predeceased by his uncle Charles Gale McFarland, best friends: Mike Wright, Kurt Fechter, and Chris Fechter; and his beloved dog Gunny.

Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 - 5:00 pm on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at W. L. Case and Company 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603. Honoring Howie's wishes cremation will take place following visitation. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider an Animal Rescue of your choice.
