Cortez, Hernan M. "Herman" Saginaw, MI Passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 73 years. Hernan was born on March 31, 1941 in Brady, Texas, son of the late Benigno and Esther (Maldonaldo) Cortez. He married Helen M. Flores on March 3, 1962; she predeceased him on September 30, 2009. He retired from GM in 1988. Herman and Helen were members of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, trips to the casino and especially time spent with his grandchildren. Surviving are his children: Sandra (Victor) Diaz, Gordon (Debbie) Cortez, Hernan (Stella) Cortez, Jr., Lorenzo (Nancy) Cortez, 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 11 siblings, many nieces and nephews and his life-long friend, Andres Delacruz. Funeral liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 910 N. Sixth Ave. Fr. Joseph Schabel will officiate with cremation to follow. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. where a vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
