Helen Annabell McMahon, a lifelong resident of Merrill, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2026, at HealthSource Saginaw.
Helen was born on April 16, 1945, in Port Huron, Michigan, to the late William H. and Arvilla L. (Miller) Tack. She married the love of her life, Timothy James McMahon in 1964; he preceded her in death on February 8, 2024.
Helen came from a family of 12 siblings and gained 12 more siblings when she married Tim. This large family made for many memorable gatherings at their home, most notably their Fourth of July parties. Helen enjoyed visiting with family and friends, cooking, canning, mushrooming, and spending time with her grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She always looked forward to her regular "card club" days with neighborhood friends.
As a homemaker, Helen was dedicated to creating a warm, caring, and welcoming home. More than any occupation, she treasured being a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother.
Helen’s passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. She will be forever missed by her three sons: Greg (Chris) McMahon, Matthew (Darcy) McMahon, and Timothy (Leslie Birmingham) McMahon; five grandchildren: Patrick “Sully”, Katherine, Margaret, Matthew “Mickey”, and Gracen; sisters: Sugar (Michael) Leddy, Nancy Schweinsbergen, and Catherine (Bill) Ackers; four brothers-in-law: Dan (Laura) McMahon, Bob McMahon, Jerry McMahon, and Brian (Frank) McMahon; and a sister-in-law, Mary Jo McMahon. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Timothy James McMahon; parents, William and Arvilla Miller; four brothers: William (Gayle) and Earl (Mary) Tack and Kenny (Bonnie) and Larry Smythe; four sisters: Rose (Jim) Horvat, Adeline (Herb) Hodges, Judy (Jerry) Faber, and Leona Taylor.
Honoring Helen's wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held at Lakefield Township Hall, 21050 Lakefield Rd, Merrill, MI 48637, on Sunday, August 2, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Helen instilled a love of learning and reading in her sons and grandchildren.
