Harold Roland Honeman of Vassar, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed on Monday, May 15, 2023, at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper, following a lengthy illness. He was 78 years old. Harold Roland Honeman was born on June 24, 1944, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Harold Henry and Thelma Alice (Hall) Honeman. He attended Reese High School and graduated in 1963. Harold then began a lifelong career with General Motors / Saginaw Steering Gear, retiring with over 30 years of loyal and dedicated service. He met the love of his life, Carolyn Eslit Sumailo, in 1997. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on August 16, 1997; she survives him. He was a longtime and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Vassar. A handyman at heart, Harold could fix or put together anything. He enjoyed spending time in his yard and gardening. Harolds little piece of heaven was being outdoors, whether it was hunting or fishing, he connected to the peacefulness it brought to his life. The role of his lifetime was to be a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Harold will forever be remembered for his selflessness and willingness to help anyone in need, for always remaining kind, easy-going and happy, for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Honeman of Vassar; three children: David (Renee) Honeman of NH; Jennifer (Shaun) Smith of GA; Jamie Honeman of Vassar; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters and one brother: Ruth (Leonard) Howell of Saginaw; Tom (Cathy) Honeman of Saginaw; Nancy (Jim) Carter of Saginaw; Sandra (Waldemar “Sandy”) Paetz of Sanford. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Thelma Honeman.

Honoring Harold’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 5880 Frankenmuth Road, Vassar, Michigan, 48768. Pastor Tony Barber will officiate.
