Guy Lynn Bennett, age 73, was joyfully welcomed home to be with his Lord on Saturday, December 13, 2025. A devoted man of faith, servant leader, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Guy lived a life defined by service, generosity, humility, and unwavering love for God and family.

Guy was born on March 30, 1952, in Saginaw, Michigan, and remained a lifelong resident of the Saginaw area. He graduated from Saginaw High School in 1970 and went on to begin a long and dedicated career at Johnson Carbide Products, where he worked faithfully for 41 years. Guy and his beloved wife, Dawn, made their home in Bridgeport, Michigan, where they shared 50 years of marriage rooted in love, faith, and family. Guy faithfully served Community of Christ Church throughout his life. An ordained Elder, he served as Pastor for many years. His ministry extended far beyond the pulpit, as he routinely visited those who were homebound or hospitalized, offering prayer, comfort, and the steady assurance of God’s presence.

Known for his love of tinkering, working with his hands, or doing “stuff,” Guy could fix just about anything—from street rods to lawn mowers. He took great pride in using his skills to help others and was always ready with a solution and a smile.

Guy never missed an athletic competition for his boys. From Bridgeport to Saginaw Nouvel Catholic Central and on to Northwood University, he was a constant presence, proudly cheering from the stands. That same devotion continued with his grandchildren. Whether baseball, football, or basketball, “Papa” was always there alongside Grandma Bennett—supporting, celebrating, and sharing in their joy.

A lifelong Michigan sports enthusiast, Guy was a devoted fan of the Detroit Tigers, Lions, Pistons, and Red Wings. He was also an avid outdoorsman who cherished time on the water, snowmobiling, and quiet moments spent in God’s creation. Some of his happiest memories were made simply driving with the love of his life in their cherished Z28 Camaro, enjoying the journey together.

Guy found special joy in the Christmas season—his favorite time of year. The carols, fellowship, decorations, and the sights, smells, and feelings of the season filled him with childlike wonder and deep gratitude. Christmas reminded Guy of Christ’s love, hope, and promise, and his enthusiasm for the season was infectious to all around him. It is fitting that his life will be celebrated during the season he loved so dearly.

Above all, Guy cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Dawn (Liedke) Bennett; his children Matthew (Kimberly) Bennett and Adam Bennett (Amanda Roesner); and his cherished grandchildren, Chase and Quinn.

He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Patricia Bennett and Kathy Bennett; his nieces and nephews, Amy (Bennett) Knickerbocker (Norby), Sherrie (Bennett) Buckley (Tony), Debra Bennett, Aaron Bennett, Travis (Taylor) Liedke, Zachary Liedke, Danielle (Rick) Alvarado Keaton Holz, and Ashley (Steven) Buska.

Further surviving are his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Liedke; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Daniel (Eileen) Liedke, William (Julie) Liedke, Tammie (Bill) Holz, and LaDonna Liedke; along with many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Guy was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Ezra Bennett; his brothers, Thomas, Earl, and Gary Bennett; his daughter Allison Bennett; his father-in-law, Robert Liedke; and his nieces, Robyn Bennett and Joy Bennett.

Guy often told others, “You’re a good man,” a simple phrase that reflected both how he viewed people and how he lived his own life. Guy was indeed a good man—marked by faith, compassion, humility, and quiet strength.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Neema with Covenant Visiting Nurses Association, and to Tammy and Alan Morford, for the compassionate care, kindness, and unwavering support shown to Guy in his final days. Their dedication ensured his time was comfortable, peaceful, and filled with dignity before he was called home.

A Celebration of Life honoring Guy will take place at 1:00pm on Saturday, December 20, at Community of Christ Church in Bay City, Michigan. Elder Mike Lawton will officiate with a reception to follow.  Friends may visit with the family at the church on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the celebration.  Though deeply missed, Guy’s legacy of faith, service, love, and joy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Guy’s name to Community of Christ Church, designated for Youth Ministry Programs.  Arrangements entrusted to W.
