Gloria returned to her heavenly home Thursday, July 6, 2023, age 80 years. She was born February 17, 1943, in Saginaw, the daughter of the late Anthony and Florence (Kozak) Trogan, who owned and operated a family grocery store on S. Washington. She graduated from St. Andrew's Catholic High School in 1961. She married Dennis Novak on June 18, 1966, he predeceased her on May 10, 2012. Gloria received her bachelor's degree from Mercy College of Detroit and her master's degree in social work from the University of Michigan. Mrs. Novak began her career teaching English and French, continued as a social worker, also assistant principal at the high school and retiring as Middle School Principal, all within the Bridgeport Public School System. Mrs. Novak was active with the Child Abuse and Neglect Council of Great Lakes Bay Area and St. Dominic Parish, St. Stephen Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, she also loved visiting craft and art shows with her lifelong friend, Alice Tribbs, where she collected hand crafted pottery. She also enjoyed reading mystery novels and cooking for her friends and family. Gloria is survived by her two sons, Anthony Novak, and Dennis Novak Jr. also brothers and sisters in law, Norman Novak, Gloria (James) Platko, Ines Novak, Gayle LaPointe, Cliff Novak, nieces and nephews, Christina (James) LaMie, Helen Novak, Catherine (Gary) Anklam, Dustin Novak, Phillip Platko, Patrick (Tori) Platko, Perry (Linda) Platko. She was predeceased by her sister, Camille Trogan Augustine, brother, Anthony (Bernice) Trogan, and brother in laws Timothy Novak and Richard LaPointe.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, August 3, 2023, at St. Dominic Parish, St. Stephens Catholic Church. Rev. Richard John will officiate. Friends may visit with family from 1pm Thursday, August 3, 2023, until the time of the memorial service.
Gloria devoted her life to the education and welfare of children. Those planning an expression of sympathy or memorial may wish to consider the CAN Council or the American Diabetes Association or a charity of their choosing.
