Obituary

Gerald “Jerry” D. Greenwood of Saginaw formerly of Hemlock, Michigan

Beloved father and grandfather passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center – Saginaw. He was 87 years old. Gerald Darwin Greenwood was born on September 25, 1938, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Gerald John and Norine Louise (Klein) Greenwood. He grew up on 40 acres of property in Hemlock; later building his own home there, next to his parents, with his beloved grandpa and grandma Klein. Jerry was a proud graduate of Hemlock High School. While skating at Brockway Roller Rink, he met the love of his life, Barbara Ellen Welsh. They were united in marriage on August 29th, 1959, celebrating 39 years of marriage until she preceded him in death on December 21, 1998. Jerry proudly served his country in the Army National Guard, serving three years before his honorable discharge. Jerry was employed with General Motors/Saginaw Steering Gear/Delpli Plant 7 as a Machine Repair Team Leader, retiring with over 34 years of loyal and dedicated service. A family man at heart, he loved being a husband, father, and grandfather. His family made his heart feel happy and full. Jerry often attended weekly service at Hopevale Church. He was a member of the UAW Local 699, Hemlock Patriots Motorcycle Club, and American Bowling Congress. Meticulous and detail oriented, he took pride in his cars, motorcycles, home, and a well-manicured yard with his grandson, Matt, right behind him on his little four-wheeler. Jerry loved to laugh and he and Barb were quite well known for their family, motorcycle, and neighborhood parties. His little piece of heaven was playing cards, bowling, and fishing on their boat on Lake Saint Helen. Jerry also looked forward to his bi-weekly poker games with his friends on Tuscany Circle, and spending time with girlfriend, Diane Keifer. He loved all animals, especially all the dogs he owned throughout his life, and the cat he adopted later in life.

Surviving are his daughter, Kimberly Greenwood of Saginaw; grandson, Matt Greenwood of Saginaw Township.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald “Randy” Greenwood; parents, Gerald and Norine Greenwood; a brother, James D. Greenwood; and an infant son.

A funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw, MI 48603. Rev. Ted McCulloch will officiate. Burial will follow at Richland Township Cemetery.
