Gary Charles Riedel - January 15, 1951 – May 7, 2025
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Charles Riedel, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Gary passed away on May 7, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan, Gary lived a life defined by dedication, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. He spent 48 years passionately committed to his career as a Master Commercial Sign Installer, with the majority of that time working with Barrett Sign. His craftsmanship could be seen across countless projects throughout Michigan, and his pride in his work was evident to all who knew him.
He met the love of his life, Mary Beth Visnaw, while at a dance at Daniel’s Den. After Gary asked her to dance, they soon began dating, fell in love, and were united in marriage on July 26, 1969; she survives him.
Gary and his loving wife, Mary Beth, also spent many years as caring foster parents, opening their hearts and home to children in need. Their compassion and nurturing spirit left a lasting impact on the lives of many youth, offering safety, stability, and unconditional love when it was needed most.
Gary and Mary Beth also shared a deep love for their community, which they poured into owning and operating the One Stop Party Store in Millington, Michigan. The store became a local favorite and a true “mom and pop” treasure. Customers were always greeted with warm smiles and friendly conversations, and Gary took great pride in providing a welcoming place for neighbors to gather and shop.
He had a special bond with his One Stop employees—always quick with a joke or a playful tease, but even quicker to lend a hand or offer support when needed. His staff felt more like family, and he cared deeply for each of them, always making sure they felt valued, appreciated, and part of something meaningful.
Gary was a man who found true joy in simple pleasures—especially time spent with his family. He loved camping in the motorhome, making lifelong memories at the state park around the campfires. The holidays were especially meaningful to him, with Christmas holding a special place in his heart. Each year, he transformed his home into a festive wonderland, always choosing the biggest, fattest Christmas tree on the lot. His spirit made every celebration brighter and every gathering warmer.
Gary was the kind of man who always put others before himself. He gave without hesitation, loved without condition, and lived with a heart full of compassion. He was a devoted husband, an incredible father, and an exceptional grandfather. His laughter, strength, and presence will be missed every day.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Beth Riedel; his children, Michael Alan Riedel; Connie Sue (Aaron) Keinath; Troy Adam (Kimberly) Riedel; Dawn Ann Walker; Chi (Mitch) Suffolk; Beth Ann (Ki-Yong) Eom; and Benjamin Charles (Jennifer) Riedel; a sister, Nancy (Michael) MacFarlane; son-in-law, Samuel DeKalita. Also surviving are countless nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends, too numerous to mention, but held closely to his heart.
Gary was a proud grandfather to Stephanie Godoy, Shaeanne Riedel, Abby Wilson, Victoria DeKalita, Gary DeKalita, Landon Kennedy, Elizabeth Eom, Jin Suffolk, Hugo Suffolk, Ann Eom, Marie Eom, and Brooks Riedel.
A Celebration of Gary’s life will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603. Ben Charles Riedel, Gary’s son, will officiate. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family kindly asks that those who wish to honor Gary’s memory consider making a charitable contribution to help offset medical and funeral expenses c/o Benjamin Riedel or via Venmo @Benjamin-Riedel-2. Your kindness and support during this difficult time mean more than words can express, and any contribution is deeply appreciated.
Gary Charles Riedel touched the lives of many, and the love he gave so freely will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy of generosity, joy, and devotion will never be forgotten.
Please share your thoughts and memories with the family at the funeral home or through www.casefuneralhome.com.
