Fred passed away peacefully at home, with his loving wife, Phyllis, his family and caretakers, Rose and Tiffany, at his side, on Thursday, October 13, 2022. Age 93 years.

He was born on May 16, 1929, son of the late Frederick and Ellen (Hanafin) Dittmar, in Saginaw. Fred graduated from Arthur Hill High School, in 1947 joined the United States Navy and served for 20 years and the Reserves for 10 years. Fred married the love of his life, Phyllis Ann McSwan in London, England on July 2, 1966 and brought his bride to Michigan in 1967. She survives him. He retired as a Master Chief Electronics Technician, was a Naval Historian and wrote books on the Navy around the world.

Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2022, at W. L. Case and Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road. Rev. Robert Richards will officiate, with burial in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at the chapel, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and on Monday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
