Franklin Louis Antal

Franklin "Frank" Louis Antal of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at Brookdale Assisted Living. He was 90 years old. Franklin Louis Antal was born on March 4, 1933, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Louis Franklin and Mary Helen (Reis) Antal. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from May 9, 1953, until his honorable discharge on May 9, 1955. Upon his return, Frank attended Lamar Barber School in Highland Park. He met the love of his life, Marilynn Gwen Nelson, on a blind date in 1956. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on October 4, 1958; she survives him. He was the owner and operator of his own barber shop for over 20 years. Frank later began a second career working on the assembly line at General Motors; retiring in 1997 after 25 years of loyal and dedicated service. His role led him to work for the Shreveport Bus and Truck Assembly Plant in Shreveport, Louisiana, for eight years, returning to his home in Saginaw, Michigan. The role of his lifetime was to be the most loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather he could be. Frank was a longtime member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. A self-taught handyman, he understood plumbing, electrical, roofing, designing, and building. Throughout his life, Frank built several garages, created an addition to his home, and led countless renovation projects. He enjoyed automotive repair, autobody repair, and had an excellent eye for painting vehicles. His little piece of heaven was spending time fishing and gardening. He will forever be remembered as a family man, for his wonderful sense of humor and natural ability to communicate and talk to all people, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Marilynn Antal of Saginaw; two sons: Mark (Michelle) Antal of Saginaw Township; Mike Antal of Carrollton; three grandchildren: Amanda (Joe) Winiarski of Grand Blanc; Shaun Antal and his girlfriend, Andrea Pattison of Okemos; Alaena Antal of Flint; two sisters and one brother: Mary (Bill) Gosen of Spauling Township; Louise (Gerald) Young of Tawas; Richard Antal of Spaulding Township; a sister-in-law, Nancy Antal of Spaulding Township; brother-in-law, Thomas Nelson of St. Louis; sister-in-law, Debbie (Ray) Rucky of Ocala, FL.
