Francis Frank Birdell Emeott

Francis (Frank) Birdell Emeott passed away Monday May 8, 2023 at the age of 100.

Frank was born on September 8th, 1922, in Hemlock, Michigan to the late Arthur and Anna (Baker) Emeott.  Frank lived most of his life in the Hemlock area.

Frank proudly served in the Army Air Force during World War II.  He was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida in the Heavy Bomb and Very Heavy Bomb Departments at Proving Ground Command.  He served as a Flight Engineer for various war planes and was a Mechanic Crew Chief and Tech Sargent.

After World War II, he met the love of his life, Arlene Lois Tessin, and married her on January 30, 1948.  They shared 62 happy years together.  Frank was a devoted family man who was blessed with three children, two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

In 1950, Frank decided to build a house for his new family.  He read books on how to do so and started building the house that spring, while working full-time at Dow Chemical.  In December that same year, five days before Christmas, he moved his family into their new home.  Frank had a remarkable ability to build things and repair things.  His talents were often called upon by family and friends, and he was always glad to help.

Frank started working for Dow Chemical Company shortly after World War II and retired in 1981.  After retirement, Frank walked a mile every day for 39 years.

Frank was a dedicated member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hemlock.  He served as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Congregation, Secretary of Church Council, Elder, Usher, President of Parent Teacher League, Superintendent of Sunday School, and also taught Sunday School and Adult Bible Class.

Frank’s happy place was his woodworking shop.  He made many beautiful pieces of furniture, toys, games, and knick-knacks throughout the years.  Frank was an avid reader.  He also cherished his time with family and friends.  He was hard to beat at Euchre or Chinese Checkers.  He will be remembered for his warm, friendly manner, his generosity, and his clever sense of humor.

Surviving are three children: Larry Emeott of Midland, MI; Randy (Dawn) Emeott of Cedar, MI; and Vicki (Patrick) Dalzell of Midland, MI; along with two granddaughters, Kayla (Charles) Springsteen and Kelsey (Ryan Esssenmacher) Emeott; and five great-grandsons. Also surviving are a brother, Dale (Esther) Emeott, a sister, Lorna Mulvaney, and a sister-in-law, Reta Emeott, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; parents, Arthur and Anna Emeott; and three siblings: Vincent Emeott, Arthella (Bernard) Foy, and Alfred Emeott; and a brother-in-law, Peter Mulvaney.
