Florence E. Burr

Florence "Betty" Elizabeth Burr of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Covenant HealthCare-Harrison. She was 97 years old. Florece Elizabeth Ellis was born on May 6, 1926, in Milord, Michigan, to the late Reginald and Harriette (Brown) Ellis. As a young girl, her father died during the great depression, this taught her to be a practical and responsible throughout her life. She was a proud graduate of Milford High School. Following graduation, Betty attended Alma College and graduated with a bachelor's degree. As a young woman, she taught at Jesse Loomis Elementary School. She met the love of her life, John "Jake" P. Burr on June 9, 1956; he preceded her in death on February 16, 2011. The role she loved the most was to be a loving and supportive wife, a stay-at-home mother where she created nothing but happy memories, and the best grandmother in the entire world. A natural caregiver, she selflessly took care of her mother, as well as her husband at the end of their lives. Betty was a faithful Christian and a longtime member of Countryside Trinity Church where she served the congregation as a deacon, in the choir, and various other capacities. She enjoyed playing bridge, working in her yard, and tending to her flowers. Her little piece of heaven was spending time with her grandchildren. Betty will forever be remembered as a loyal, kind, and caring friend, for her love of animals, especially her beloved cats, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.

Surviving are a son, Michael (Kathy) Burr; two granddaughters: Meghan and Katelyn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John "Jack" Burr; a son, Charles J. Burr; father, Reginald Ellis, mother and stepfather, Harriette and Frank Hunemorder.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Countryside Trinity Church, 4690 Weiss Street. Rev. Jane Lynn Young will officiate. Burial will follow at Owen Cemetery.
