Obituary

Esther May Egbert of Saginaw, Michigan

Went to be with the Lord, her savior Jesus Christ, with her family by her side on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center – Saginaw. She was 90 years old. Esther May Hoyt was born on February 26, 1936, in Saginaw, Michigan, to late Earl and Eva G. (Gubbins) Hoyt. She was a 1954 graduate of Saginaw High School. Esther serendipitously met, Kenneth L. Egbert, and married him on June 8, 1956, in Saginaw; he preceded her in death on February 21, 2017. She graduated from Saginaw Practical Nurse School in 1970 and spent the next 46 years working as a nurse with Saginaw General Hospital and Covenant HealthCare. The role she treasured and cherished the most was being a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a longtime and faithful member of Ames United Methodist church, volunteering her time to singing, playing piano, assisting with the bereavement community, and taught with the Chapel Bells Sunday School. Extremely crafty, she enjoyed knitting, especially baby blankets for church and basket weaving. Esther also enjoyed shopping, especially at Macys, working on puzzles, feeding the squirrels, taking care of her dogs, and making sure to pet everyone else’s dog. She will forever be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, love of Jesus Christ, being a devoted prayer warrior to all who needed ministry, and living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.

Surviving are Michael (Laure) Egbert of Brooksville, FL; Robert (Jennifer) Egbert of Saginaw; Donald (Susie) Egbert of Fowlerville; and Ruth (John) Frey of Saginaw; 13 grandchildren: Kenneth L. (Elizabeth) Egbert III, Joshua Egbert and his girlfriend, Jerri, Emily Lambon, Christopher Egbert, David (Jennifer) Egbert, Nancy (Garrett) Golembiewski, Rebecca Egbert, Sarah (Luke) Combs, Rachel (Justin) Butka, Samuel Egbert, and Ashton Egbert; many great-grandchildren; and her special Thursday lunch group. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Egbert; a son, Kenneth L. Egbert Jr.; parents, Earl and Eva Hoyt; and a brother, Bill (Elaine) Hoyt.

Honoring Esther’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Esther’s life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603. Pastor Ruth Estell will officiate. A Nightengale Tribute will follow under the direction of The Michigan Tri-City Nurse Honor Guard. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Angels Among Us.
