Erma Frieda LaHaie, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, in Saint Charles, Michigan. She was born on June 8, 1932, in Denmark Township, Michigan.
Erma was united in marriage with Richard Thomas LaHaie on September 22, 1956. Richard preceded her in death on June 20, 2000.
She lived a life dedicated to her family and home. Before dedicating herself to being a homemaker, she briefly worked for Michigan Bell, a testament to her early independence. Her true passion, however, blossomed in creating a warm and nurturing environment for her loved ones. Erma found joy and peace spending time in her garden and the care she put into her yard. Her kitchen was often filled with the comforting aromas of her delicious cooking and baking, treats that were always shared with a smile. She approached life with a gentle spirit and a deep capacity for love, making everyone feel welcome and cherished. Her greatest joy was found in the laughter and company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.
Erma was a faithful member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, finding comfort and community in her faith.
Erma is survived by two daughters and one son, Debora Meyer, Randolph (Kathy) LaHaie, Linda (Jeffrey) James; two grandchildren, Richard (Kristy) Meyer and Amanda Meyer; great grandchildren, Ethan, Michael, Elliana, Evelyn, Kallie, Joseph and Justin; many nieces and nephews.
Erma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard Thomas LaHaie; her parents, Louis and Olga Schultz; daughter, Karen Munson and son, Thomas LaHaie; son-in-law, Michael Meyer; and siblings Herman Schults, Hildegard Brenner, Elizabeth Spannagel, Dorothy Smith and twin brother Ernest Schultz.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Erma’s caregivers from Heartland Hospice, Jenny, Andrea, and Chaplain Lonnie.
Cremation has taken place and a Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N River Rd, Saginaw, MI 48609, where friends may visit with the family from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service. Rev. Fr. Peter Gaspeny will officiate the service. Erma will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, alongside her husband Richard, at a later date.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Heartland Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Arrangements are entrusted to W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 201 N Miller Rd, Saginaw, MI 48609. Please share memories of Erma with her family at the church or by visiting www.casefuneralhome.com.
