Ellen J. Long Saginaw, Michigan Passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2014 at Covenant Harrison at the age of 81 years. The daughter of the late Alvin E. and Ilo M. (Lucas) Spaulding was born September 11, 1932 in Lakeview, Michigan. She received her Bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and was a lifelong Spartan Fan. She received her Master's degree from Western Michigan University. Ellen married Richard Long in 1954 who predeceased her in 1969. Ellen was an avid knitter and leaves a legacy of many unique hand knit Christmas socks. Surviving are three children and their spouses, Michael and Jeanie Long; Patricia and Don Gilbert; Kathryn and Ken Burger; five grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer and David Bellairs; Jessica Long and her fianc, John Lemyre; Ben and Kate Long; Alison Long; Whitney Gilbert; five great grandchildren; a brother, Jack Spaulding; a brother-in-law, Sid Pollack; nine nieces and nephews. A sister, Elta Pollack, has predeceased her. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. Rob Richards will officiate. Friends may call at the Chapel from Noon Saturday until the time of the memorial service.
