Passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Covenant Cooper Hospital. Age 95 years. Ellen F. Simmons was born February 10, 1920 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Frank and Harriet (Walker) Simmons. She attended SS Peter & Paul High School and was the valedictorian of her graduating class. She later obtained her Master's degree from the University of Michigan. Ellen was employed as a teacher at St. Stephen Parish School, St. Mary Parish School, and Jerome Elementary, retiring after 30 years of combined service. She was a proud member of the University of Michigan Alumni Club. She was a frequent traveler, often extensively with Eugene and Bertha Trogan. She enjoyed working with her sister-in-law, Dorothy Trogan, at Rodeitcher's Hotel and Restaurant. Her greatest passion was her family to whom she was fiercely devoted. Ellen is survived by her three children: Nicholas (Judy) Trogan, Sharon Smith, and Bruce (Betsy) Trogan; five grandchildren, Jeanne (Tim) Trogan-Flynn, Carrie Trogan, Kelly (Jay) Gross-Kostrezwa, Katie (Tom) Grillo, and Christin Trogan; and three great-grandchildren, Brady Flynn, Fiona Flynn, and Anthony Kostrezwa. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Scott Smith. Funeral Liturgy will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at St. Dominic Catholic Church, St. Stephen site, 1310 Malzahn. Rev. Fr. Stephen Gavit will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the liturgy. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy may consider St. Jude Children's Hospital.
