Elaine Frances Nicklyn

Elaine Frances Nicklyn of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Monday, March 7, 2023. She was 79 years old. Elaine Frances Hyatt was born on March 17, 1943, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Wallace and Elizabeth (Zoromski) Hyatt. She was a proud 1961 graduate of St. Andrew High School. Following graduation, Elaine attended Delta College, Eastern Michigan University, and later became the first graduating class from Saginaw Valley State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Elaine then began a lifelong, rewarding, fulfilling career as a public-school teacher with Carrollton Public School and later with Mt. Morris Consolidated School where she taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grade special education. A proponent of education, Elaine obtained two Master’s Degree from Oakland University; one in early childhood development, the second in special education. Though an excellent teacher, the absolute honor and role of her lifetime, was to be the most amazing, loving, and devoted mother and grandmother this world has ever known. Her greatest accomplishment in life was her son, David, who always made her proud and left her heart smiling for the last 54 years. Their love will last forever. Elaine was a member of the Michigan Education Association and actively participated in various union duties throughout her life. She held a special place in her heart for all animals, enjoyed meeting the class of 1961 for lunch every month, as well as taking yearly trips together. Elaine was an avid reader and also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles. She treasured and cherished her family and endured a strong bond with her sister, Joann Hyatt Stroebel. She left her indelible mark on this world through her love and kindness, for her selflessness to anyone in need, for her natural wit and intellect, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.

Surviving are a son, David (Darcie) Nicklyn of Saginaw; four grandchildren: Justin Nicklyn of Saginaw; Katie (Preston) Weber of Harrisburg, PA; Hannah Nicklyn of Saginaw; Connor Nicklyn of Saginaw; brother, James Hyatt of Burt; a brother-in-law, Jack Stroebel of Auburn Hills; and a lifelong special friend, Mary Crannell of Saginaw; a cousin who was like a sister, Marcia (Larry) Rilko of Saginaw. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Wallace and Elizabeth Hyatt; two sisters: Janice Alfano and Joanne Stroebel; and a sister-in-law, Pamela Hyatt.
