Passed away peacefully with his dear friend, Linda Hagerl by his side, on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Covenant Cooper at the age of 95 years.
He was born on January 13, 1930 in Saginaw, MI to the late J. Edwin and Irma E. (Halm) Beythan. He was the second oldest of five children and grew up on a farm in Saginaw, MI. Ed married Mildred Jessie Eimers on October 28, 1950 and together they lovingly and selflessly adopted two daughters, Jenean Amerman of Saginaw, MI and Maurine (Paul) Brusko of Manassas, VA, who survive him. Millie, as she was known, predeceased him in March 2000. Edwin married his second wife, Ann Margaret Beythan in May 2002. Ann predeceased Ed in July 2017 after fifteen fun-filled years of marriage.
Through Ed’s journey of almost 96 years, he touched many lives through his fun-loving spirit, generosity, and resilience. He dedicated his life to being a wonderful father, husband, and friend. He jokingly nicknamed his daughter Jenean as “George” and she in return would call him “Ralph”. They were forever pals, often fishing together and visiting each other. He proudly maintained his driver’s license until the end.
A long-time member of the Michigan Carpenter’s Union, Ed worked as a finish carpenter for Spence Brothers in the first phase of his career. Later in his career, he worked as a maintenance technician supporting construction and property management for Shaheen Development (SSP Associates Inc.). An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed gardening, deer hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, and birdwatching. You would often find him in his later years sitting in his recliner looking out his big picture window, taking in the view of all the passers-by, farm equipment, and counting the deer and turkey in nearby fields.
In addition to his daughters, Ed is survived by his grandchildren Andrew (Boryana) Brusko of Bristow, VA, Sarah (Jon) Yi of Mechanicsville, VA, step-son Robert (Linda) Beythan of Bay City, MI, step-daughter Kathleen Zieroff of Saginaw, MI, sister Lois Gardner of Saginaw, MI, brother Frederick Beythan of Birch Run, MI, and many loving great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Ed is predeceased by his parents, brother Carl Beythan, sister Irma June Bolster, and son-in-law Frank Amerman.
Family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thanks to Ed’s friends and neighbors Paul and Evelyn Dotson, Warren and Kathleen Vasold, and Linda Hagerl, without whom he would not have achieved his very fond wish of remaining in his own home until the end. They lovingly and graciously checked in on him, and made sure he had food, rides to appointments, medical supplies, snow shoveled and plowed, and countless other gestures of support.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2026 at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Friday from 2:00-7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Burial will be in Owen cemetery.
