Beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather went home to be with the Lord on July 31, 2019. He was 93 years old. Ed was born on July 2, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Christ and Eva (Ulrich) Schmidt. He married Leannah Elizabeth Harris on September 11, 1954; she predeceased him on January 2, 1986. He was remarried to Mary Ursuy on November 25, 1989; she predeceased him on July 3, 1995. Ed served in the United States Army from 1944-1946 as well as the Air Force from 1949-1952. He was a proud WWII vet, stationed in the Philippines and Japan. He worked as an inspector at General Motors for many years, retiring in 1988. Ed volunteered at the City Rescue Mission of Saginaw for over 10 years. He also volunteered at the Forgotten Man Ministries, Covenant Hospital, and was honored for his volunteering on Saginaw Commission on Aging. Ed was an active member of Immanuel Bible Church. During the past 16 years he made many friends and memories at Wescourt Retirement Community and was also an avid Detroit Tigers and Pistons fan.

He is survived by three children, Elizabeth (Kurt) Schwannecke of Saginaw, MI, Jesse Schmidt of FL, and Carol (Kelly) Scheffler of Bay City, MI; six grandchildren, Joshua (Megan) Schwannecke, Jason (Erika) Schwannecke, Kristin (Brock) Brockway, Devin (Karley) Scheffler, McKenzie (Nathan) Scheffler, and Alexander (Kenna) Scheffler; eight great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two siblings, Richard Schmidt and Esther Ziegler; and an infant son, Paul.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 3, 2019, at Immanuel Bible Church, 5433 N. Center Road, Saginaw. Rev. Matthew Beery will officiate with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00-8:00 pm on Friday, August 2, 2019 at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw, and at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service.
