Edward “Ed” J Finlay, of Freeland, Michigan
Age 76
Died February 22nd, 2022 in Saginaw, Michigan. Born December 27th, 1945 in Flint, Michigan to the late John & Violet (Hengy) Finlay, Ed was a 1964 graduate of Kearsley High School. Upon graduating, Ed enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country for nearly 4 years. It was on leave from the Navy in 1969 that he took a chance on Patti Meyer, asking her for a dance while at the Horseshoe Bar. There was an immediate connection between the two. They would be joined in marriage on October 18th of that year and stay happily married for over 50 years. Always a hard worker, Ed moved through different ranks at Consumer’s Power, retiring after 32 years as a Line Foreman. Retirement wouldn’t see him slowing down though, as he poured his effort into restoring old cars, including his prized Chevy Pickup, and the realty business he shared with Patti. Ed loved riding Harleys, hunting, collecting hats and knives, and loved listening to country music. More than anything, he loved being a family man that provided for his wife and son. He is remembered as being a proud and faithful Christian and dedicated member of Christ Lutheran Church, as being a jokester whose joke didn’t always come out right, and as a humble and patriotic man of integrity.

Left to cherish Ed’s memory are his son Joseph and Beth Finlay, grandchildren Lilli and Hazel Finlay, and sister Kay and Bob Bailey, as well many nieces, nephews, other family members, friends, and his faithful German Shorthair Otis.
Ed was preceded in death by father-in-law Bob Meyer, mother-in-law Verna (Bill) Kraatz, and brother-in-law Jim Meyer.

In accordance with Ed’s wishes, cremation will take place, with a memorial service at Christ Lutheran Church, 8795 Ederer Rd, Saginaw on April 2nd at 3:00pm.
