Obituary

Edith Ann Mason-Mead

Hope, Michigan, Formerly of St. Charles, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at her home, with her family at her side. Age 89 years.

The daughter of the late John and Leona (Dubay) Tyler, Edith Ann was born on October 18, 1937, in Saginaw, Michigan. She attended Holy Rosary High School. Edith married William Francis Mason II, on November 25, 1953. They shared many wonderful years together before his passing on February 10, 1996. Edith later married David Mead Sr, on December 12, 1998. They also shared many wonderful years together until his passing on December 16, 2005. Edith Ann lived life on her own terms. If she wanted to do something, she did it. She had a love for horses and enjoyed riding, showing them, and spending time on her land. Edith Ann loved to travel, especially to Florida, and enjoyed RVing and camping in Harrison. She was happiest outdoors, whether she was on the water or fishing with family and friends. A strong and powerful matriarch, she believed in living life to the fullest. Edith Ann never met a stranger, loved everyone she met, and had a deep love for her family and loved ones. She would not want anyone to be sad for her passing. Instead, Edith Ann would want her life to be celebrated and remembered with joy, laughter, and love.

Surviving are her daughters and sons, Deborah (Gregg) Schmitzer, William III (Joan) Mason, Mary (Denny) Obermark, Brenda (Mark) Newberry, Michael (Chris) Mason, Cynthia (Carmen) Mason; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and very dear cousin, Sally Miller. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and loved ones. Besides her husbands and her parents, Edith Ann was preceded in death by her brothers, John Tyler, and Dick Tyler.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Compassus Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Edith Ann.

Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 201 N. Miller Rd, Saginaw, MI 48609. Rev. Fr. Steven M. Gavit will officiate. In accordance with Edith Ann’s wishes, cremation will follow. Friends may visit the family from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2026, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Meals on Wheels of Midland County.
