Delores Sue (Payne) Grnya, Age 79, of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
Delores was born in Christian, West Virginia on May 2, 1947, to the late Elmer and Claudine (Light) Payne.
Delores was united in marriage with John Henry Grnya on November 18, 1967, following a brief 6-month courtship. John preceded her in death on February 9, 2025. Delores was a long-time and devoted member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church for forty-seven years.
Delores was very proud of her southern heritage and often told friends she was a “Hillbilly”. She often shared stories with family and friends of her upbringing in West Virginia and that her father was a coal miner.
Delores is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Howe and her husband Dennis, and Rebecca Ryther; four grandchildren who she cared for and thought of as her own, Andrew Grnya and his girlfriend Micaela Dezelah, Brendan Ryther, Colin Ryther, and Abiageal Ryther; sister Sharon Osborne; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Norman Grnya, Joyce Grnya, Harold Grnya; and Ginny Grnya; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Claudine Payne; sister, Barbara Howard; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Michael and Antoinette Grnya; brother-in-law Richard Grnya, sister-in-law Joan Jozwiak, and brother-in-law Freel Osborne.
Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 3424 Crestmont Dr, Saginaw, MI 48603, where the funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, officiated by Pastor Michael Wilke. A private interment will take place in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
