David "Sketter" Joseph Davis

David “Sketter” Joseph Davis of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, stepgreat-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Saturday, May 10, 2025. He was 88 years old. David Joseph Davis was born on April 7, 1937, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Weldon Jennings and Mary Ann (Wozniak) Davis. He attended grade and middle school at St. Andrew School, later graduating in 1954 from Arther Hill High School. Upon graduation, he began his long-time career as an excavating truck driver at both Bourdow Trucking and Champagne & Marx Excavating; retiring after many years of loyal and dedicated service. He was a proud member of the Teamsters. On March 30, 1974, he married his beloved wife, Pauline Alice Kuch; she survives him. Following retirement, Dave worked at ABM, Absolute Building Maintenance, as a custodian. He was hard working, but the role he treasured and cherished above all others, was being a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Dave was a longtime and faithful member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time in his vegetable garden. Dave also enjoyed pressing his luck at the casino. He will forever be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his “one liners”, for selflessly putting others before himself, and for truly living a wonderful life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Pauline A. Davis; four children: Jeanne, David, Michelle, and Marcia (Andy); four grandchildren: Jessica, Melissa, Joshua, and Jaime; four stepchildren: Darrell (Susan), Patrick (Elizabeth), Shelley, and Scott (Peggy); six step grandchildren: Adam, Eric, Amelia, Benjamin, Francis, and Austin; six step great-grandchildren: Ryan, Sean, Emma, Dylan, Everleigh, and Emma; a brother, Jerry Davis. Also surviving are many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Weldon and Mary Davis; and a sister, Shirley Shaler.

Honoring Dave’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial funeral liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Road, Saginaw, MI 48609. Rev. Fr. Peter J. Gaspeny will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
