Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper, with his family at his side. Age 81 years,
The son of the late Orville and Mildred (Wesley) Coon, David was born on November 29, 1944, in Chesaning, Michigan. He married the love of his life, Davana Jean Marshall, on August 14, 1965 They shared many wonderful years together. She survives him. David worked for many years as an operating engineer in construction, building a career across many aspects of the trade. He had a deep appreciation for heavy equipment, a passion that extended to maintaining his beloved pulling tractor, Blu‑By‑U, and remained a steady part of his life. He believed strongly in service and community. David served faithfully on the council at Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church and was active in organizations that reflected his interests and values, including the MidMichigan Old Gas Tractor Association (MMOGTA), the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and the Alma Arbor Gleaners. He was also a proud member of Operating Engineers Local 324, where he formed lasting friendships and earned a reputation for reliability and grit. David loved the outdoors, whether working or playing, though more often playing, especially hunting, fishing, and watching birds. He was a hard worker, strong‑willed and determined in his own way, and someone who took pride in doing things right. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit lives on in the memories he created and the people he loved.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Davana; his sons, David "Scott" Coon and Bradley (Marla) Coon; his sister, Linda Kruger; brothers, Leonard Coon and Alvin Coon; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Besides his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Ken Coon, and his brother and sister-in-law Dennis and Janice Coon; and his daughter-in-law, Deanna Coon.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Great Lakes PACE and Primary Nursing Care of Saginaw, for their kind and compassionate care of David.
