Darlene Kay DeLong

Beloved wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on October 21, 2022, at the age of 78.

The daughter of the late Mancell Boyd and Wava (Hammond) Boyd, was born on June 26, 1944, in Owosso, Michigan. She graduated from Chesaning High School, the Class of 1962. Darlene married Ron DeLong on August 4, 1962. He survives her. She worked as a welder in Ashely, in the library at Pine Avenue School in Alma, and volunteered at Merrill Elementary School, but her favorite job was the years she spent babysitting many neighborhood kids. There wasn’t much that made her happier than babies and children, especially her grandkids. Darlene loved fishing, sewing, reading, puzzles, BINGO, and cooking. She was well known for so many of her delicious dishes, canned goods, and pies.

She will be missed by her husband of 60 years, Ron; children, Julie (Dawn) Arnett, Leisa (Brent) Erickson and Michael (Linda) DeLong; grandchildren, Nicole (Jon Spencer) Erickson, Abby Arnett, Cami Erickson, Andrew Erickson, Alex DeLong, Alivia DeLong and Asher DeLong; siblings, Ron Boyd, Dave (Sherry) Boyd, Don Boyd and Debbie King; many nieces and nephews that loved to call her Aunt Bubbles, relatives and friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by their infant son, Billy Lee DeLong, brother and sister-in-law, Mancell Boyd Jr. and Mary, brother, Richard Boyd, sister, Mary Sue Dumond, sisters-in-law, Charlene and Jarlene Boyd, brother-in-law, John King, nephew, Rusty Boyd, and special friend, Mary Wenzel.

Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at W. L. Case and Company, 125 E. Saginaw St., Merrill, Michigan. Friends may visit with the family at the chapel on Thursday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
