Crystal M. Kauer

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed on September 5, 2024, in Saginaw, Michigan, at the age of 88. Born on September 21, 1935, in Oxford, England, to the late George and Rosetta (Budden) Fish; she lived a life rich in love and dedication.

Crystal came from England to Canada in 1959; then made her way to Saginaw. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting from Saginaw Valley State University and diligently worked as an accountant for Michigan Sugar until her retirement in 1998. In addition to her professional pursuits, Crystal had a deep passion for gardening, a hobby that brought her great joy. As a Master Gardener, she cultivated not just plants but also relationships, sharing her knowledge and love for nature within her community. Besides her love for gardening, she also had a love for horses and dogs and traveling worldwide. A member of Aldersgate Church, Crystal was known for her faithfulness and her active participation in church life. Her belief in community and service was further exemplified through her involvement with the Zonta Club, where she contributed to initiatives aimed at empowering women and improving their communities. She and her husband, took over 50 cruises, Worldwide.

    Crystal is survived by her loving husband Lynn Kauer, whom she married on June 30, 1989. Her legacy continues through her children: Janice Olafson, Jan Medford-Hoffman, Ann Medford, and Renee LaLonde. She cherished her role as a grandmother to Joe Kauer, Mary (Eric) Chapman, Allyson (Ron Murphy) Hoffman, and Tyler (Erin) Hoffman, and was a proud great-grandmother to Rhys and Henry Hoffman, and Emma and Eli Chapman. She is also survived by her siblings: Yvonne Newell of Oxford, England; Hazel (Jim) Brookshaw of Gloucestershire, England; and Julian Fish of North Hampton, England, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, all of whom will miss her deeply. Crystal was predeceased by her step-son John L. Kauer in 2013, her grandson John R. Kauer in 2023, and sister Brenda Pauline Fish in 1947, a brother-in-law, Brian Newell, and a nephew, Andrew Newell. 

Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Aldersgate Church, Cardinal Campus, 6030 Bay Rd., Saginaw. Rev. Matthew Brown will officiate with burial at Kochville United Methodist Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Friday at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and on Saturday at church, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
