Athey, Charles D. Merrill, MI Passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the age of 73 years. The son of Irene (Swan) and the late Dale Athey was born on November 21, 1941 in Cheboygan Co., MI. He graduated from Beaverton High School, the class of 1959. He served in the US Navy, on the USS Forrestal. He retired from Buick in 1994. Charles enjoyed gardening, coin collecting and most especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren. Surviving are his children and their spouses: Paula (Michael) Spear, Penny (Randy) Slick, Pat (Laura) Green, Chris (Terri) Green, Wendy (Jerry) Kienitz, Coleen Athey, his mother Irene Athey, 20 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, his siblings: Barbara Franko, Edward Athey, Robert (Carol) Athey, Pete Athey and many nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends. Charles was predeceased by his son, Brady Green and an infant brother Richard Athey. Funeral liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2015 at the St. John XXIII Parish, St. Mary Catholic Church, Hemlock. Fr. Duane Wachowiak will officiate with military honors and cremation to follow. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel in Merrill on Thursday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
