Charles Russell Cooper, age 78, of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away on May 21, 2026. Charles was born on May 27, 1947, in Saginaw, to the late Charles H. Brothers and Mary A. (Schultz) Schwartz.
Charles graduated from St. Charles High School. His sense of duty extended to his military service, having served honorably in the Army during the Vietnam War receiving the Bronze Star. This period shaped his strong values and unwavering dedication, qualities that would define his personal and professional life.
Following his military service, Charles built a commendable career at HealthSource, from which he retired after many years of devoted service. His work ethic and reliability earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike.
Outside of his career, Charles was a man of simple pleasures and deep interests. Known to friends and family as a longtime bowler, he also found joy in attending old gas tractor pulls, a passion that connected him to his roots and community heritage. Perhaps most cherished were the moments spent watching his grandchildren play sports, a testament to his role as a proud and supportive grandfather. Evenings often found him sharing a beer with friends, relishing camaraderie and good conversation.
Charles was united in marriage with Lynn Catherine (Russell) Cooper on September 23, 1978. Lynn preceded him in death on July 19, 2009. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Terry "Gus" Cooper, and one sister-in-law, Donna Brothers, whose memories he cherished.
Charles is survived by his beloved children Amy (Bryan) Reder and Laura (Russ) Hafner. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Dylan Hafner, Griffin Hafner, Albin Reder, Emma Reder, and Nora Reder, who brought immeasurable joy to his later years. He also leaves behind one brother, Bill Brothers, and one sister, Christine (Robert) Reis, along with a special niece, Gale Inscho and special friends, Sheila and Terry Tatroe, who all held a unique place in his heart.
