Carolyn Bertha Brown Merrill, Michigan

Our beloved Mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend was called to her heavenly home in the early morning hours of June 24, 2023, at Ascension St. Mary's Hospital, at the age of 84. Carolyn was born on January 21, 1939 to John and Wilma (Rohn) Novak in Lakefield Township, Michigan. She was a proud 1957 graduate of Merrill High School. During high school she met the love of her life, Irving Brown and they were married September 24, 1960. They shared 59 years of marriage before he passed away on February 8, 2020. Carolyn was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church her entire life. She enjoyed baking and decorating cakes and taught many others how to decorate them as well. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, whether they were camping, traveling, or just being together.

Left to cherish Carolyn's memory are her children: Stanley (Kim) Brown, Annette (Tom) Guettler, Daniel (Shirley) Brown; grandchildren: Benjamin (Michelle), Michael (Jessica), Laura (special friend Nick), Joshua (Mallorie), Brandon (Libby); six great-grandchildren and one more due to arrive in October; twin sister Caroline; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Jesse (Barb) Brown, Bill (Marsha) Brown, Margaret Palmer, Luella Brown, Lillian Novak. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and those who called her grandma, and dear friends she called family, Chuck (Sherry) Braband and family.

She was preceded in death by husband, Irving; parents John and Wilma Novak; mother- and father-in-law, Horace and Eva Brown; a grandson, David Guettler; a brother, John W. Novak; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Delbert Foster, Charles (Darlene) Brown, and Gerald Brown.

A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 10020 E. Monroe Road, Wheeler. Pastors Charles Braband and Michael Podeszwa will officiate. Burial will follow at Lakefield Township Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the W.L. Case and Company, 125 E. Saginaw Street, Merrill, on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
