Bruce G. Hill Jr., age 84, of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly at his home on August 17, 2026.

Bruce was born on October 4, 1941, in Saginaw to the late Bruce and Lorraine (Rivett) Hill Sr. He graduated from Saginaw High School in 1959 and proudly served in the United States Army, including service in Vietnam. Bruce was very proud of his military service and often spoke of the honor it was to serve his country.After returning home, Bruce joined the Saginaw Police Department, where he served for 27 and a half years before retiring in September 1994. During his time with the department, he also earned his associate degree from Delta Community College and received several commendations for his service.Bruce married Lana R. Halle on February 10, 1968, and she survives him.Bruce was a natural athlete and enjoyed playing football, baseball, basketball, and running track throughout high school. During his military service, he discovered his love for golf, which remained a passion throughout his life. He especially enjoyed golfing with his son Jeffrey when he returned home from California, where they always had a friendly competition to see who would come out on top. In his later years, Bruce enjoyed playing golf with his friend and golf partner, Otto Brandt. Together, they won a few championships in the Saginaw Municipal League, and Bruce joked that some of the guys they played with “gelled like peanut butter and jelly.” Bruce continued golfing throughout his life and was proud to be recognized as the oldest golfer participating in a Veterans Golfers Association of Michigan outing during the 2026 season.Bruce also enjoyed fishing and was a lifelong Detroit Red Wings fan, watching them through the good and the bad.Above all, Bruce loved his family. He and Lana especially enjoyed their many golf vacations together, creating memories they would cherish. He loved watching his grandchildren grow up and become the adults they are today.Bruce is survived by his wife, Lana; his four children, Jeffrey (Florence) Colby, George Colby, Terry Colby Collins, and Tina (Don) Cherwinski; five grandchildren, Zak (Corissa) Colby, Jacob Colby, Kevin Collins II, Jason Cherwinski, and Julia (Trevor) Wortman; great-grandchildren Camila Colby, Jett Colby, Sophia Collins, and Collin Wortman, with another great-grandchild on the way; his sister, Penny (Harold) Shelton; nieces Tammy and Tracy; and many extended family members and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Trisha Collins.Bruce will be deeply missed by his family and friends and remembered for his service to his country and community, his love of family, and the many things he enjoyed throughout his life.

Honoring Bruce's wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held within the coming week, please check back for updates.
