Brenda Jane Nolish, age 79, of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by the deep love of her family and friends. She leaves behind the profound legacy of a life lived to the absolute fullest, defined by resilience, service, and an unshakeable devotion to others.
Born on May 25, 1947, to the late Joseph and Eleanor (Piggott) Schmelzer, Brenda grew up in a vibrant household. Though she faced a lifelong physical disability from a young age, she refused to let circumstances slow her down or define her. Instead, she met every challenge with fierce determination. As a single mother, she raised her family while putting herself through college, ultimately graduating first in her class from Michigan State University at the age of 40—an achievement she and her family remained incredibly proud of.
Brenda spent her entire life pouring into others, running toward those who needed love and grace the most. Her career as a juvenile probation officer allowed her to guide young souls with a rare mix of strength and compassion. Her heart for service also extended globally, taking her across the world to perform meaningful missionary work. Closer to home, she faithfully served her community as a pastor at Glory House International Ministries, where she passionately led the youth ministries and spearheaded the healing rooms, touching countless lives with her faith and prayer.
To know Brenda was to know a true spirit of adventure. An adrenaline junkie at heart, she loved fast cars and was always the absolute life of the party. She was an avid golfer who brought a trademark competitive spirit to the course, a passion highlighted by two impressive holes-in-one. Brenda also loved setting sail on the open seas, sharing countless cruises, adventures, and laughs with her best friend and travel partner, Ginny Defoe.
Above all, Brenda cherished her family. She was a loving mother to her three children, Michelle (Paul) White, Eric (Traci) Nolish, and Matthew Nolish, and a proud grandmother to her six grandchildren: Kaylee, Brendan, Cameryn, Durgan, Payton, and Jaxon.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, her grandchildren; her sister, Carol “Tilly” LaFramboise; her brother, Jim (Annie) Schmelzer; and a large, loving community of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Eleanor, and her brothers, Joseph and David Schmelzer, with whom she is now peacefully reunited.
Brenda fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. She has returned home to God, having earned every bit of the joy waiting for her, leaving a world that is undeniably brighter for having had her in it.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Glory House International Ministries, 3660 Hermansau Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603. Pastor Jim House will officiate with burial to follow in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at church Friday morning from 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Brenda’s honor to support organizations close to her heart:
