Obituary

Beth Elaine “Shortie” McLaughlin of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully, with her husband by her side on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Meadows on McCarty in Saginaw. She was 82 years old. Beth Elaine Corwin was born on September 28, 1943, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Arthur Ray and Vivian Cristella (Hilts) Corwin. Beth was a proud 1961 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. Following graduation, she attended Central Michigan University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education. In 1958, Beth met the love of her life, Ted Irwin McLaughlin, through the Boy Scouts of America. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on June 19, 1965, celebrating 61 years of marriage together; he survives her. Beth began her teaching career in St. Louis, Michigan, for two years before taking on the role of her lifetime, to be a loving and dedicated mother to her two daughters. Upon her return to teaching, she spent the next 19 years with the Genesee County Intermediate School District educating autistic children. While working with the school district, she attended and graduated from Oakland University with a Master of Science in Special Education with an emphasis in Autism Spectrum Disorder. When she wasn’t spending time with her treasured and cherished family, Beth enjoyed quilting, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. This was her little piece of heaven, to design and create clothes, costumes, suits, sports jacket, dresses, and coats for everyone she loved. Beth also enjoyed tending to her flower garden. She will forever be remembered as a woman who lived a life of service to other people. Her family will fondly remember her as a spirited lady in the kitchen making lunch or taking a cat nap in her rocking chair. Beth was selfless, kind, priceless, profound, and lived a life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.

Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Ted I. McLaughlin of Saginaw; two daughters: Tonya Swidorski of Saginaw; Leah (Kurt) Hill of Saginaw; five grandchildren: Jacob Gray, Brandon Swidorski, Elizabeth (Wyatt) Baker, Gretchen McLaughlin, and Scooter Hill; two great-grandchildren: Caiden and Delilah Baker; a sister, Ardis (Walt) Roseberry of CA; two sisters-in-law, Karen Corwin of Farwell and Janice Wilber of Oscoda; and a brother-in-law, Lynn (Phyllis) McLaughlin of Saline. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends to0 numerous to mention but held closely to her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Vivian Corwin; a brother, Doug Corwin; and a brother-in-law, George Wilber.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw, MI 48603.
