Baby Calista Rae Barrera

Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, niece, cousin, and God-daughter passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 7, 2023, with her family at her side, at the age of four months and twenty-five days.

The daughter of Brandon M. and Rachel S. (Plater) Barrera, Calista was born on Thursday, July 13, 2023, in Midland, Michigan. Her family would describe her as the happiest baby, with the biggest smile and dimples. Calista was often fascinated by her Uncle Jacob playing drums. Her cat, October, would keep her occupied, as he ran around the house being nosey and checking in with Calista. One of her cute quirks was acting like a cricket, always taking her socks off, then laughing as her grandma’s dog, Zeus, would run away with them. While visiting with her grandparents and their dog, Nikita, Calista was welcomed with warm kisses. She would even share a cute growl with her family and loved ones. She was a light, for every time she smiled Calista would brighten up your day. Her soul was brighter than the sun and even shined brighter than the stars. Calista loved cuddling with her family, as well as her soft plush Minnie Mouse doll, and her mom’s baby blanket. Often accompanied with her favorite movies, including Boss Baby and Cocomelon. Calista loved watching UFC fights with her dad. Also watching football and hockey on T.V. with her grandpa. She was beautifully perfect and a little angel to those she loved. Calista encompassed all of what is good in this life. Though her time on earth was short, she touched the hearts of many or all she met. Though she was not able to fulfill all of our hopes, wishes, or dreams, she lived, was fiercely loved, and a blessing and joy to us all.

Left to cherish Calista’s memory are her parents: Brandon and Rachel Barrera; grandparents: Karen Napora, Dianne (Alison) Ifill, Aaron and Paula Plater; great-grandmother: Susan Anderson; aunts and uncles: Stephanie Plater (Jordan O’Neal), Zachary Plater (Julia Marino), Jacob Plater, Aaron Plater II; cousins: Willow Marino, Meadow Marino-Plater; and God-parents: Stephanie Plater, Michael Wildfong. Also surviving are many extended family members, loved ones, and friends. Calista was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Norma Plater.  

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603. Rev. Rob Richards to officiate with cremation to follow her services. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023, and from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday at the funeral chapel.
