Obituary

Arthur “Art” Edward McIntyre of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at Stone Crest Assisted Living in Freeland. He was 93 years old. Arthur Edward McIntyre was born on March 11, 1932, in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Floyd and Helen (Schiele) McIntyre. He was a 1950 graduate of Saginaw High School. Following graduation, Art honorably served his country in the United States Army from November 1952 to October 1954. Upon his return, he married the love of his life, Janet Lee Esler, on August 6,1955, at Epworth United Methodist Church in Saginaw; she survives him. Art was employed as the produce manager with Ray’s Food Center, Vescio’s Grocery, Gary’s Produce Market, and Jack’s Meat and Fruit Market for 60 years. The role of his lifetime, one he treasured and cherished above all others, was to be a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a longtime and faithful member of Bridgeport Community Church since 1972. Art also worked as a softball umpire throughout the Saginaw Bay Region and received a 30-year plaque from the State of Michigan for all his years of service. An avid sports fan, as a young man he enjoyed running track and as he had gotten older, he enjoyed playing blooper ball. He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in various sporting events, band and choir concerts, and plays. He always cheered for his favorite Detroit teams. Art and Janet loved square dancing and traveled across the country to national square dance conventions with the Calico Twirlers. His little piece of heaven was camping upstate at Crystal Lake for over 70 years, sharing this love with his family. Art will forever be remembered for his faithfulness, strong work ethic, wonderful sense of humor, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.

Surviving are four children: Pastor Glen (Rita) McIntyre of Burt Lake; Pamela (Kenneth) Sawyer of Freeland; Daniel (Joan) McIntyre of New Port Richey, FL; Thomas (Tammy) McIntyre of Saginaw; nine grandchildren: Brent (Kate) Sawyer, Brian Sawyer, Aaron McIntyre, Amy (Brad) Constant, Katy (Ryan) Kerr, Eric (Devon) McIntyre, Danielle (Jordan) Fulton, Kourtnie (Jeff) Scott, and Jacob (Ally) McIntyre; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Linda Mitchell of Saginaw; Marie Esler of Jax Beach, FL. Also surviving are countless nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends too numerous to mention but held closely to his heart.

He was preceded in death by parents, Floyd and Helen McIntyre; two great-granddaughters; three brothers and four sisters: James, Lucille, Edith, Evelyn, Frieda, Dave, and Floyd; three brothers-in-law: Sonny Morgan, Gary Esler, and Dave Mitchell; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Morgan.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at the Bridgeport Community Church, 3821 State Street, Bridgeport, MI 48722. Pastor Glen McIntyre will officiate. Burial and Military Honors will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Gardens under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post 22. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw, MI 48603 on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Bridgeport Community Church. Please share your thoughts and memories with the family at the funeral home or through www.casefuneralhome.com.
