Anne Hoag (Sweet) passed away on September 7, 2026 at the age of 93. She was born on December 31, 1932 in Omaha, Nebraska to Dr. Irwin and Hazel Sweet (Herbert). Her family returned to Michigan when she was three years old. Anne graduated from Sterling High School and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Central Michigan University. After 30 years as a teacher and librarian, she took early retirement from the Bay City Public School system.

Anne was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Freeland where she served as a lector, Eucharist Minister, and a projectionist. She had served on the education, Christian Service and Worship Commission and was a coordinator for the Befriender Ministry.

Anne was a past president of the Bay City Zonta Club and the Thomas Township Library Board.

She is survived by her grandson, Christopher Howie; her nephews, John and David (Nancy) Sweet; niece, Carol Johnson (Sweet); and a special cousin, Gail Lentz.

Alongside her parents, Anne was preceded in passing by her husband, Frank Hoag; her son, Mike Howey; her brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Margaret Sweet; and her special lifelong friend, Ardith Goodroe.
