Allan LeRoy Duby of Bridgeport, Michigan
Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and dear friend passed away peacefully at his home, with his family by his side, on Thursday, December 1, 2022. He was 85 years old. Allan LeRoy Duby was born on December 20, 1936, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Napoleon and Lila (McMillian) Duby. He proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Army in 1955, serving with the 533 MP Company in Kaiserslautern, Germany, until his honorable discharge in 1958 as a specialist 3rd class. Upon his return, Allan began a lifelong and rewarding career defending, protecting, and serving others as a police officer. He held positions with the City of Saginaw Police Department, Saginaw County Sherriff's Department, chief of police with Millington Township Police, and ending his career as sergeant with Saginaw Township Police Department until his retirement in 1998. With a law enforcement career spanning more than thirty years, in 1986, Allan was selected as officer of the year, as well as a 1998 lifetime meritorious service award. While walking the beat, he met the love of his life, Catherine A. Ransom. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on August 23, 1965; she preceded him in death on May 8, 2011. When asked what makes a good police officer he said, "What it boils down to, is putting yourself in the place of the other person and treating him the way you like to be treated." Allan was a music aficionado and an avid record music collector. His little piece of heaven was spending time listening to his record collection. He was a history buff, especially regarding WWII, and he also enjoyed attending air shows. Allan always looked forward to Memorial Day and Labor Day because he could watch his war programs all day on television. A true hero to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Allan was the perfect family man. He will forever be remembered for his beautiful smile and wonderful sense of humor, his good looks, and for truly living a remarkable life filled with many wonderful memories and stories.
Surviving are four daughters: Kimberly (Lance) Stewart of Holland; Kathleen (Don) Aprill of Greenville; Kristine Whyte of Bridgeport; Colleen (Peter) Byle of Garden City; nine grandchildren: Daniel Meyers, Allan (Veronica) Duby, Jeffrey Powrozek, Angela Duby, Mandy (Shelby) Davis, Heather (Victor) Leichner, John Thompson, Nikki (Sarah) Charbonneau-Whyte, and Brittney Ostrander and her fiancé, Tristin Hughes; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and a brother, James (Gert) Duby of Freeland. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Catherine Duby; a grandson, Dylan Ostrander; two brothers: Ronald and Larry Duby.
