Alfred Duane “Dewey” Masar

Alfred Duane “Dewey” Masar, age 82, formerly of Hemlock and Midland, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Dewey was a kind, proud, and devoted family man whose greatest joy in life was being with the people he loved most. One of eight siblings and the father of five sons, he treasured every moment spent with his family and never stopped wishing for more time with them.

A faithful Catholic, Dewey drew comfort, strength, and peace from his faith throughout his life. He enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life meaningful to him — watching baseball, basketball, and football, spending time camping, rock hunting, birdwatching, and fishing, and sharing quiet moments with the people around him. After 30 years of service at General Motors, he retired with pride in his work and gratitude for the friendships he made along the way. He also gave back to his community through his service as president of the local Little League, as a volunteer at the Saginaw Zoo, and known for his “Dewey-burgers Weenie wagon”.

He is survived by his children, Chuck Masar (Michelle), Tom Masar (Brandi), Tim Masar (Acel), Jason Masar (Amy) and Jeff Masar (Holly); his grandchildren, Brandon, Josh, Samantha (Ben), Trent, Chance, Tyler, Preston, Eliana, Ryan, Kevin (Nicole), Bryce (fiancé Paige Wilson), Nathan, and Ashlynn; great grandchildren Emi, Rowan, Nora, Kash, Liam; his brother, Ted Masar; his sister, Rosemary Costello; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael Masar and Beatrice (Hall) Masar; his brother, Frank Masar; and his sisters, Wilma Jerry, Theresa Berkobien, Helen Becker, and Ruth Hare.

Dewey will be remembered most for his kindness, faith, devotion to family, strong work ethic, and the warm way he touched the lives of so many. His memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2026 at St. John XXIII, St. Mary Catholic Church in Hemlock. Fr. Sunil will officiate with burial at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 201 N. Miller Rd. from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
