Abel Vega of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved Father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Hoyt Nursing and Rehab Center, he was also a long time resident at Holland AFC in Saginaw. Abel was 83 years old.

Abel Vega was born on February 12, 1943, in Elsa, Texas, to the late Reyes Guzman Vega and Herminia Rivas Vega. He was a graduate of Arthur Hill Technical High School. Following graduation he began working for General Motors. On December 8, 1964, he proudly served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge on November 25, 1966. Abel continued to serve his country with the United States Army Reserve until his honorable discharge on December 7, 1978.

As a young man, Abel loved playing guitar. Music was a great outlet for him. He enjoyed listening to oldies and country western music, especially while tinkering on cars in his garage.

Surviving are four children: Alicia, Abe, Jason, and Samantha. Also two sisters and four brothers and spouses: Esther Gallegos, Israel Vega, Reuben Vega, Ezequiel Vega, Samuel Vega, and Rebecca Olivarez, two deceased sisters Elizabeth Vega Larry and Vicenta Vega. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends, too numerous to mention but held closely to his heart.

A family-led service will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw, Michigan 48603. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Military honors and burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly, Michigan 48442, under the auspices of the United States Army and VFW Post 1859.
