Abel Vega of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved brother, uncle, cousin, and friend passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Hoyt Nursing and Rehab Center. He was 83 years old Abel Vega was born on February 12, 1943, in Elsa, Texas, to the late Reyes G. and Herminia (Rivas) Vega. He was a proud graduate of Arthur Hill High School. Following graduation he began working for General Motors. On December 8, 1964, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army serving until his honorable discharge on November 25, 1966. Abel continued to serve his country with the United States Army Reserve until his honorable discharge on December 7, 1978. As a young man, Abel loved playing his guitar. Music made his heart happy and was a great outlet for the songs he learned to play. He enjoyed listening to country western music, especially while taking country drives or tinkering on cars in his garage. Abel also enjoyed traveling across the US and throughout Michigan, even more so during autumn to admire the brilliant fall colors. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving are two sisters and four brothers: Esther (Mario) Gallegos, Israel (Grace) Vega, Reuben (Maria) Vega, Ezequiel “Zeke” (Sue) Vega, Samuel (Diane) Vega, and Rebecca (Robert) Olivarez. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends, too numerous to mention but held closely to his heart.
