Winfred L. Case

Winfred L. Case Saginaw, Michigan Passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 29, 2019, at his home, surrounded by his family. Age 88 years. He was born Jan. 20, 1931, in Saginaw, the son of Frederick W. and Blanche (Coash) Case. He attended Saginaw public schools, graduating from Arthur Hill High School in 1949. He attended Dartmouth College, and received his mortuary science degree from Wayne State University. He owned and operated the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Home for many years, following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. On Feb. 9, 1951, he married his lifelong love, Mary L. Richir, and they had 68 years of happy marriage. Win had a wide variety of business, civic, and personal interests. He served as a director of Second National Bank, later Citizens Bank, for many years. A devoted fly fisherman who tied all his own flies, he was a longtime member and past president of the William B. Mershon chapter of Trout Unlimited. He also served on the National Board of TU as a member at large. He served on the Swan Valley School Board from 1979-81. He also served on the board of directors of Saginaw General Hospital. He was a member of the Saginaw Club, Saginaw Country Club, Fordney Club, Pioneer Club, Germania Club, Saginaw Gun Club, and the Honest John Club. He was a staunch supporter of Saginaw's West Side, and was a member of the West Side Civic Association. Win and Mary enjoyed many years of traveling, especially to their cabin in Lovells on the North Branch of the Au Sable River. Avid antiquers, they also loved visiting antique shows around the state and country. They were dealers for several years in the Saginaw Antique Warehouse. Win was a leader, a friend, a fishing buddy, a beloved son, brother, cousin and uncle. He was kindhearted and generous to a fault. He had an enormous circle of friends, colleagues and relationships, but it was his role as husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather that meant the most to him. His legacy in that regard will sustain this family and generations to come. In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by six daughters and their spouses: Julie and Tim Swieczkowski, Mary Lou Case and Bill Snyder, Susan Case and her significant other Paul Markey, Kathy Case, Caroline and Leo Orsini, and Amy Case; eight grandchildren, Win (Carrie) Swieczkowski, Sarah Swieczkowski, Merrill Snyder, Albert (Leah) Case, Casey Denno, Jamey (Kristin) Denno, Joe (Andrea) Orsini, and Anna Orsini; five great-grandchildren, Jillian, Stella, Bode, Lauryn and Ali. Nieces and nephews, David (Sheri) Case, Stephen (Sara) Cota, Jennifer (Robin) Ashby, Linda Ruthig, John ( Rose) Ruthig and Joe Ruthig; his cousin, Ida Hoffman; and several other cousins and relatives. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Roberta Case, and his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Andy Cota; and his parents-in-law, Leo and Marie Richir. He was also predeceased by his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Bonnie Ruthig and Leo and Rosalie Richir. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the caregivers from Hospice and from Right at Home, especially Rose Green. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 pm Monday, Nov. 4, 2019 at the W. L. Case Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw. Rev. Robert Richards will officiate with burial at Oakwood cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel from 2:00-6:00 pm Sunday and from noon Monday until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Trout Unlimited William B. Mershon Chapter, Swan Valley United Methodist Church, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Old Town Christian Outreach, Covenant VNA Hospice or the charity of your choice.
