William P. Valeck

Valeck, William P. Saginaw, Michigan Beloved husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, and uncle, passed away Wednesday evening, December 13, 2017, at MediLodge, Frankenmuth, at the age of 88 years. He was born August 7, 1929, in Columbia Corners near Gagetown, the youngest of eight children born to the late Paul and Anna (Stefanech) Valeck. He worked on the family farm until the age of 16, when he moved to Saginaw. He married Betty Elaine VanBocxlaer on September 17, 1949, celebrating 68 years of marriage this year. Bill worked as a painter for 17 years. He then owned and operated Valecks Standard Station on Saginaws east side, and later owned and operated Valecks Amoco and Sunoco stations in Shields. After retiring, he worked at Crooked Creek Golf Course. He served on the James Township Volunteer Fire Department, retiring with the rank of Assistant Fire Chief. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, serving as an usher for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially golfing, bowling, hunting and fishing. Surviving are his wife, Betty; two daughters, one son and their spouses, Bonnie (Ken) Clark, Saginaw; Brian (Sue) Valeck, Freeland; Becky (Bryan) Dietrich, Freeland; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Ken (Julie) Clark, Jr., David (Stacy) Clark, Andrew (Kari) Clark, Sara (Will) Ellis, Melissa (Chris) Oates, Jeremy (Taeia) Valeck, Zach (Jennifer) Valeck, Gavin Dietrich and Spencer Dietrich; twelve great-grandchildren, Emmalee, Taylor, Jacob, Caleb, Addison, Avari, Chloe, Liam, Jedediah, Lily, Hudson and Amelia; many nieces, nephews and their families; a brother-in-law, Alvin (Joyce) VanBocxlaer; and a sister-in-law, Donna VanBocxlaer. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters, Paul (Letha) Valeck, John (Mae) Valeck, Joseph (Helen) Valeck, Katherine (Michael) Tomich, Anna (Arthur) Pylar, and two siblings who died as children, Anna and William; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Erwin VanBocxlaer, Leona (Richard) Hak, and Janice VanBocxlaer. Funeral service will take place at 12 noon Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5335 Brockway Road. Pastor Paul Biber will officiate with entombment in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Escort will be provided by the James Township Volunteer Fire Department. Friends may call at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, where the James Township Volunteer Fire Department will do a walk-through on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Family and friends may then call at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
