Robert D. Powers of Farmington Hills, formerly of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2019, at West Bloomfield Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was 87 years old. Robert Donald Powers was born on October 12, 1931, in Wheeler, Michigan, to the late Samuel and Lulavene (Blackford) Powers. He worked as a carpenter before proudly serving his country in the United States Army. Robert served during the Korean War from September 10, 1952 to July 16, 1954; receiving many awards and commendations. Upon his return, Robert resumed his career as a carpenter and assisted in the building of Saginaw Steering Gear. He later became employed as a machine operator with General Motors; retiring with over 30 years of service. Robert was a lifetime member of VFW Post #1566 and UAW Local #699. Robert enjoyed working with his hands, especially home repairs or maintenance. Above all, he found inner peace and joy taking long walks. He will forever be remembered for his hard work ethic and for his kind and caring spirit.
Surviving are two twin daughters and a son: Heather (William) Wisniewski of Northville; Wendy Powers of Northville; Bryan Powers of Longmont, CO; grandson, Collin Wisniewski of Northville; two sisters: Constance (Jack) Petersen of Shepherd; Dorthea Michalski of Pinconning. Also surviving are many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road. Military Honors and Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens under the auspices of the United States Army and VFW Post #1566. Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Alzheimers Association.
