Lorraine Marie Kumar Saginaw, Michigan The Lord gently called our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother home and to be united with her husband, Walter, on Wednesday, October 24, 2018. Age 96 years. Lorraine was born on July 26, 1922, daughter of the late Victor and Louise (Mikolaiczik) Zabelski, in Saginaw. She married Walter Kumar on September 13, 1947. He predeceased her on December 12, 2004. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church for 50 years. During WWII, Lorraine worked at Saginaw Steering Gear then known as "The Gun Plant". She was one of the many women known to be "Rosie the Riveter", helping make rifles for WWII. She was also a graduate of Saginaw High School Class of 1940. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, swimming, riding her bike and spending time with her loving family. Lorraine will be missed by her children, Tim and Cheryl Kumar of Birch Run, Karen and Michael OToole of Saginaw, Diane and Andy Lang of Midland, Terri Hubbard of Saginaw and Laura and Roy Cullenbine of Saginaw; 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and one on the way; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including her special friend, Barb Rakowski. She was predeceased by her son, John Kumar, son-in-law, Craig Brenske, her brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Dorothy Zabelski, her sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Joe Ritzenhein and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Stella and Stanley Kumar. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the nurses and staff of Stratford Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation and Mid-Michigan Medical Center-Midland. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 29, 2018, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1525 S. Washington Avenue. Fr. Bill Taylor will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit the family at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
