Karan Phillpotts (Loeffler)

Karan Phillpotts (Loeffler) Saginaw, Michigan Passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the age of 75 years. Her parents Ralston DeCorte and Leona Wegner (Raymond), and her brother James DeCorte predeceased her. Raised in Saginaw, she attended Saginaw High School, graduating in 1960. In 1963 Karan married the late Allan Loeffler, raising three children together, Scott (Debbie), Matt and Lori (Jason). In 1984 Karan began her very successful career in parks and recreation as the assistant director in Caro, Michigan where she not only improved the conditions of the local parks, but also increased the number of recreational sports programs in the community. In 1988 she took over as the parks and recreation director of Bridgeport Township. She truly enjoyed her job as it allowed her to be involved with two things she dearly loved, watching her children play sports, and helping children and adults participate in sports. She took her role very seriously, and was always looking for ways to increase participation opportunities for children and adults by expanding the number of programs. One of her most cherished accomplishments came when she worked closely with Dick Pope and the Bridgeport community in hosting the 1994 American Legion 16 and under national baseball championship. She took great pride in the way the entire community came together to raise the funds needed to upgrade all facilities to best in class. As she said, there were many, many people who volunteered countless hours and resources to make the tournament a success. In addition to her role in parks and recreation, Karan served on the local United Way board, was in charge of the Boys town Basketball program sponsored by the YMCA, served as a volunteer in multiple roles with the North Little League, served as supervisor of the girls softball program in Saginaw Township, was active for many years with the CAN-AM games in Saginaw Township, was instrumental in the development of the CAR-MAR games in Caro, and served as cheerleading coach for many years in Bridgeport. After retiring in 2004, Karan found great joy in spending as much time as she could with her Grandchildren (Carlynn, Chelsey, Logan and Connor) and her closest friends. In 2008 Karan fell in love again, and married Donald Phillpotts in 2009. She enjoyed 7 great years with Don prior to her passing. She is survived by her children Scott, Matt and Lori, Grandchildren Carlynn, Chelsey, Logan and Connor, Sister-in-Law Emma DeCorte and her children Andrea and Adam. Karan will always be remembered as a mother, grandmother, friend and wife. Always willing to help others, and always wanting to find a way to make things better and allow more in the community to participate. She will be deeply missed, and forever loved by her family and friends. A memorial visitation to celebrate her life will be held at the W.L. Case and Company Funeral Home. 201 N.
