Josie Mae Barnes

Josie Mae Barnes Hemlock, Michigan Passed away Wednesday June 27, 2018, at Covenant-Cooper. Age 67 years. The daughter of the late Josephine (Shaft) and Gilbert Whittier was born January 7, 1951 in Saginaw, Michigan. She married Bill Bailey Barnes, November 9, 1968. He survives her. She had been employed by Bocks Drug Store and then by Long John Silvers on Gratiot. She had been a Girl Scout Leader and a volunteer at Hemlock Schools. She was an active supporter of her childrens and grandchildrens activities at Hemlock Schools. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Surviving besides her husband, Bill, are four children, Bill Bailey Barnes II and Dorothy; Malissa Sue Barnes and Shawn; Stacy Marie Barnes (Huizar) and Ashley Narvais; Alisha Mae Barnes; seven grandchildren, Samantha Mae; Zackary Douglas; Hunter John; Austin James; Robin Rose; Heidi Irene; Jade Leah; one sister, three brothers, Iris, Michael, Gilbert, Jr. and Delbert Whittier; several nieces and nephews and her grand dog, Pepper. She was predeceased by a brother, Henry Whittier. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018, at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel in Merrill. Pastor Gary Helwer will officiate with cremation to follow. Friends may call at the Chapel in Merrill from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Friday.
