Jose Martinez, Sr.

Our loving father and grandfather passed away on Friday, August 2, 2019 at the age of 78 years. Jose was born on February 11, 1941 in Harlingen, Texas, the son of the late Domitilo and Guadalupe Martinez. He married Ana Bernal in 1963; she predeceased him in 2018. Jose retired from the GM Grey Iron Foundry with nearly 50 years of service. Jose was an avid runner; running in several marathons (most often the Detroit Free Press Marathon) and even when his health began to fail he would go to the Saginaw YMCA to exercise daily. Even when hospitalized he would make sure to get up and move. Jose will be greatly missed by his children: Jose Martinez Jr., Ernesto Martinez, Mario Martinez and Liana Martinez; grandchildren: Candace, Marinda, Tara, Issac, Apple, great-grandchildren: Payton, Paisley, Stella, and many other special relatives and dear friends. Funeral liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Anthony of Padua Church, 3680 S. Washington. Fr. Gerry Pehler, OFM Cap. will officiate with entombment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday at church, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
