James Frederick Oldenburg

James Frederick "Jim" Oldenburg of Hemlock, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on Monday, December 9, 2019, at Ascension St. Marys Hospital. James Frederick Oldenburg was born on June 24, 1936, in Saginaw, to the late John and Harriet (Sperry) Oldenburg. He was a 1954 graduate of Hemlock High School. On November 3, 1956, he married Loretta Greenwood, sister of his best friend Ed. Jim retired from Saginaw Steering Gear in 1993 following 38 years of service. He also worked the family farm with his dad and later on his own. Jim dearly loved his family, the farm, his dogs and cats, and his John Deere tractors. He was a faithful member of St. John XXIII Parish, St. Mary Catholic Church, and was an usher there for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Loretta, and their five children: Becky (Fred) Thompson, Sue (Matt) Reno, Jim Oldenburg, Jr., Tom (Sandra) Oldenburg, and Kevin (Kalli) Oldenburg; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ellen Krawczak, Alice Spaeth; brother, Harry Oldenburg; brothers and sisters-in-law: Ed (Jan) Greenwood, Karen (Ron) Chapin, Bill (Diane) Greenwood. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; parents; brother, Jack (Joyce) Oldenburg; and mother and father-in-law, Ed and Dorothea Greenwood.

A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Mary Catholic Church, 151 St. Marys Drive, Hemlock. Rev. Fr. Michael F. Steltenkamp, S.J, will officiate assisted by Deacon Librado Gayton. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road on Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening led by Deacon Librado Gayton. Jim will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. John XXIII Parish, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of the donors choice. .
